DevOps is not just about the tools being used in the environment. It’s also about the culture, people, and how the business operates. DevOps brings together all the groups involved – developers, testers, system administrators, network administrators, security, change management, product owners, etc. When these groups are not working together issues can arise and progress can start to slow. The teams also need to be empowered to work together. If separation of duties, funding, or management get in the way your tools are not going to help.

When you build your team, build a team that fosters collaboration. The hero mentality is a sign that something is not working. Make sure that the teams are able to work together effectively. Review business processes and make changes to allow your DevOps teams to succeed. Without the people and support behind them, the tools can only take DevOps so far.
